The Darkside of competitive Motivation
Some said to be succeeded in this world, you need to be competitive. You need to compete with other, and strive to win. For some, this might be a great way to motivate self and keep pushing forward. But actually there are some darkside to this kind of motivation.
First of all i need to clarify something, i'm not saying that being competitive and competition is not necessary or important. I'm just saying that you can't rely too much on this kind of motivation because it has some negative impacts. Some people perhaps can handle those negative impact, but for some they just can't deal with it and simply broke apart, even demotivated.
What are those negative effect?
Competitive people are usually always look up. Well looking up is good, we can see where we want to grow, it gives us direction and motivate us to keep moving forward. But, too much looking up sometimes make people unhappy with their current condition, even though some people would kill to be in his condition. They forget to feel grateful and satisfied with what they already have, because they only focused on what they don't have. No matter how successful they're are, wether they cure cancer, save the world or have bill gates money. They won't be happy, because they forget to see what they already have. They becoming ungrateful.
Competitive people are always looking forward, but unfortunately that doesn't mean they always moving forward. Some people are looking really far away, and make it as their aspiration. But sometimes when a reality hit, or a failure comes. They'll become stressed, and see other people keep moving forward making them more stressed. Eventually, they'll started to giving up and stop moving. They stuck waiting for opportunity of success or new places come to them, rather than improving on their current condition in current places. While they're waiting, they curses at themselves because they see other people keep on succeeding while they're feeling stuck. What they don't realize is : They feeling stuck because they choose to feel stuck. They actually can keep on improving themselves while waiting for an opportunity. Who knows perhaps they can become successful in their current place. Alas, they'll never know because they too busy thinking other people success, and where should they move.
For me, the most irritating negative impact caused by competitiveness is this :
"you hate if other people are succeeded at something". This is true, if you're so competitive, you can't stand if people are succeeding. Because you feel beaten, jealous, etc. This is creating an unhealthy way of thinking. Because you feel stress if other people are success, and you can't control that. Why would you ever feel stressed over something you can't control?? Instead of feeling jealous, be happy for them, congratulate them. Surely this will make you feel better and you can focusing more on how to make yourself success.
Motivation are meant for you to reach your dream, to make you become happy. If your motivation doesn't make you happy and doesn't make you move forward to reach your dream.. then you're doing it wrong.. and let it go... everyone has their own path, what you can do is make the best of time by improving yourself.
If you keep on focusing on other people, then you wont have enough time to focused on yourself, thus you're getting further and further from success.
Be grateful on what you have, then decided where to move from that...
Happy Grateful-ing Every one!! :D
